Scoop Insurance coverage and discounts

Working with a skilled insurance broker can help you uncover discounts on your home and auto insurance that might not be immediately obvious. They know the details about your coverage options, taking the time to understand your needs and matching you with the best options for price and coverage

Home and auto insurance discounts

Here are some of the cost-saving opportunities a Scoop broker can help you access:

  • Multi-policy discount: Combining your home and auto insurance policies under the same provider (also known as ‘bundling’) can lead to substantial savings — sometimes as much as 20%. To access this discount, all the policies you want to bundle must be purchased through the same insurance intermediary (i.e., a broker or agent).
  • Lump sum payment discount: Paying your annual home and auto insurance premiums upfront can net you savings of 5% with the lump sum payment discount applied.
  • Retiree discount: Some home and auto insurance companies offer reduced rates to policyholders who are aged 65 and older. You may not qualify for it if you're still earning an income. Insurers also require a signed declaration before they grant the discount.
  • Home safety discount: Installing safety features, like fully monitored home alarms, can result in a discount. Insurers will also offer a discounts for installing the following:
    • Water alarm systems. These include professionally installed sensors with water shut-off systems to all water appliances.
    • Devices that prevent sewer backups. Sump pumps and backwater valves prevent flooding and can result in a discount of between 5% to 10%.
  • Usage-based insurance discount: If you log 12,000 km or less annually, you may benefit from a pay-as-you-go program. It involves installing a device in your car that lets your insurer monitor your speed, phone usage, breaking, and acceleration. Doing this can knock off 5-10% off your premium when you enroll, and as much as 30% at renewal — but only if you've proven you're a good driver. Insurers can also penalize you if the device detects poor driving habits.

There are many other insurance savings tactics you can use to reduce your insurance premiums and working with a Scoop Insurance broker will make exploring your options simpler and faster. You'll save time, money, and effort.
