About Grey Power Insurance

Grey Power Insurance was brought into the Intact Financial Company family and rebranded and rolled into belairdirect in 2015. The company focused heavily on mature, experienced drivers over the age of 50 with a clean record. They believed that years of driving experience as well as good driving habits should be rewarded with great rates on auto insurance.

A history of helping experienced drivers

Grey Power Insurance was founded in 1993 and the first of its kind in Canada to offer car and home insurance catered to a niche market of those aged 50 and over. Statistically, older drivers are safer and have fewer accidents compared to the general public. Grey Power believed that because of this, drivers over 50 deserved different rates that reflected their experience. They serviced drivers in Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia for a number of years before joining the Intact Financial Company.

During this time, they earned numerous awards throughout the years from JD Power Customer Satisfaction Surveys, a testament to what a great insurer they were.

A new era of aiding customers

When Grey Power was rebranded and consolidated into belairdirect, this change allowed belairdirect to expand and simplify their operations and improve customer service. Like Grey Power Insurance, belairdirect has earned numerous JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey accolades.

Belairdirect has been around since 1955, making the company over 60 years old. They became an Intact Financial Corporation company in 1989. Eight years later in 1997, belairdirect became the first car insurance company in North America to offer customers the ability to shop for car insurance online. Since then, it's become one of the most popular ways to shop for car insurance.
