The Aeroplan program allows members to pool points and benefits, such as preferred pricing, making it a popular choice for families and frequent flyers. Whether you wish to book your dream vacation or upgrade your seat for your next business trip, the program has an option for that.

Earn points with an Aeroplan-affiliated credit card or Aeroplan partner in store or online. Using an Aeroplan credit card has added perks. For one: no expiry date on points — typically 18 months if there has been no activity on your account for that time. As a cardholder, you can also earn Aeroplan points on nearly everything you buy on the card.

Here is an overview of Canada’s best Aeroplan credit cards.

Ways to earn more Aeroplan points

Get one step closer to your next vacation with the right travel credit card by earning rewards on everyday purchases, like coffee and takeout. Want to reach your getaway goals even sooner? Accelerate your earnings with these simple tips to earn more Aeroplan points.

Shop with Aeroplan partners

You may know of sites like Rakuten or apps like Ampli that offer cash back for shopping at some of your favourite companies. The Aeroplan eStore is a similar concept. Once you log in to your account, you can search for popular brands like Amazon, Indigo, Apple, and Disney+. Use the affiliate link to earn Aeroplan points on the products you usually buy.

Aeroplan members can now link their accounts to Starbucks and Uber Eats to earn points on those purchases, too. Note, however, that conditions vary by partner. For instance, you may have to spend a certain amount to earn points, and exclusions may apply.

Check the eStore regularly, as there are often excellent promotions — especially around the holidays.

Convert points from other loyalty programs

Many top travel programs allow members to convert their points to other loyalty programs. For example, American Express enables members to exchange Membership Rewards points with programs, such as British Airways Executive Club, Asia Miles, and Aeroplan.

In this case, 1,000 Membership Rewards points equal 1,000 Aeroplan points. That means you could transfer your rewards to Aeroplan if you have a popular lifestyle card like the American Express CobaltTM Credit Card or the no-fee American Express® Green Card. Doing so is an excellent strategy. Combining rewards is a quick way to boost your points balance if you don’t have enough rewards from one program to purchase a flight or vacation package.

Pool your points with family

Aeroplan Family Sharing was one of the many features released in November 2020, when Aeroplan updated its program.

Pool points with up to eight family members while maintaining separate accounts. Members with redemption privileges can use points from the shared balance to redeem rewards. And, if the group has an Aeroplan Elite Status Member, everyone can benefit from their preferred pricing.
