Calling all movie buffs! Are you a bonafide film fan? Do you consider yourself a connoisseur of new releases? If you find yourself hitting the theatre on a regular basis to chow down on popcorn and enjoy the big screen, it could really pay off for you to use a credit card that’ll reward you – with free movies!

While a number of rewards credit cards out there offer applicable entertainment points, there’s one true frontrunner when it comes to movies – and that’s the SCENE Rewards program. A joint effort between Cineplex and Scotiabank, the program offers a points-back structure specifically for movie tickets and concessions. Think about it: the cost of a night at the movies has skyrocketed over the past decade - the prices at the concession stand alone have inflated so much they could probably pop the corn! So having a way to considerably cut down on the cost can have a real impact on your weekend entertainment budget.

So how does the program work? First, Scotia and Cineplex offers it across three platforms – the SCENE Membership Card, the SCENE ScotiaCard debit card, and the Scotia SCENE Visa Card, each designed to help you rack up rewards points.

The SCENE Membership Card

Every SCENE member, whether or not they choose to use the SCENE ScotiaCard or SCENE Visa, will receive a membership card. This card is required to redeem any of your SCENE points, so don’t go to the movies without it. Every time you purchase a movie ticket, you’ll receive 100 SCENE Points. If you’re buying tickets for kids under 14, you’ll get 50 points for each of their tickets as well. You’ll also save 10% at the concession stand.

The SCENE ScotiaCard

Looking to rack up points even faster? Using the debit or credit card offerings from SCENE on your everyday purchases will have you dimming the lights with your Junior Mints more often. To use the debit card, you’ll be required to set up a SCENE-eligible Scotiabank chequing account (already a Scotia customer? They can switch you over). In addition to your SCENE membership perks at the theatre, you’ll be hooked up with 1000 free points with your first debit purchase (that’s a free movie right there), and you’ll also earn 1 point on the dollar for all purchases – and 5 points per dollar when spending at a Cineplex location or online at Cineplex.com.

The Scene Visa

This card appeals to more than just movie enthusiasts – with no annual fee and a standard interest rate of 19.99%, it’s a good bet for students (or anyone looking to live on the lighter side). First up, there’s big payoff, right away – and that’s free movies. 4 of them to be exact, with a sign up bonus of 4000 points. The same 1 point on the dollar and 5 points per dollar at Cineplex locations are also featured by this card, along with Avis Rent a Car details. Rounding out the details, the car also features a 21.99% rate for balance transfers and cash advances.

How Can I Apply?

We’ll hook you up – simply click here to check out the SCENE Visa card, you’ll be sent to the SCENE.ca website to apply for your membership as well as your credit card application details. Enjoy the show!
