Intact is offering its private passenger vehicle policyholders across Canada one month of car insurance premium relief to help cope with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The new support targets customers whose driving habits have changed during the latest COVID-19 wave, including those commuting to work for essential reasons.

Relief is available to all customers in the Intact family of brands, including belairdirect. To access the funds, Intact customers can apply through Intact's Client Centre, belairdirect customers can do the same via the belairdirect Client Centre, or through either insurer’s mobile app to receive funds more quickly via secure Interac e-Transfer. Intact customers can also contact their broker to apply.

"Our purpose is to help people, businesses, and society prosper in good times and be resilient in bad times. For more than a year, the pandemic has tested the resilience of individuals and society. This latest wave has been even more challenging," says Louis Gagnon, president of Canadian operations for Intact Financial Corporation, in a statement. "As a company, we came into this pandemic on strong footing and are in a position to continue helping our customers."

This latest announcement complements other measures the insurer has taken. For example, through usage-based insurance programs such as Intact's myDrive and belairdirect's automerit, customers receive personalized feedback and tips to improve their driving. These tools provide customers with the opportunity to further reduce costs due to decreased driving during the pandemic and earn up to 25% off their premiums.

Different insurance companies are offering various pandemic relief measures. Check the RATESDOTCA Rebate Premium Calculator to find out what measures your car insurance provider offers.
