Earn Big as You Shop Small With American Express

Eligible American Express cardholders can earn up to $50 in statement credits when they shop at small businesses until August 23, 2021.

We are entering the final month of the American Express Shop Small campaign, a global initiative launched by the payment network to invest $100 million in local merchants as they recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

Eligible American Express cardholders must first register their card via the AMEX CA app or online portal to participate. Once registered, eligible cardholders can earn a $5 statement credit when they spend at least $10 (after tax) at participating small businesses in their area. Earn a $5 credit up to 10 times, a total value of up to $50.

While the campaign runs for eight weeks (June 28 to August 23, 2021), any purchases made prior to card registration will not apply. Fortunately, if you haven’t signed up already, it’s not too late. At the time of publishing, cardholders have just over three weeks left to “Shop Small,” whether in-store, online or by curbside pick-up.

“As more of the country comes out of lockdown, we’re all ready to come together again and support the small businesses that make our neighbourhoods special,” Lisa Kalhans, President and CEO of American Express Canada, said in a release. “Canadians have been rooting for their favourite local spots and we’re thrilled to provide another outlet for that enthusiasm with our latest Shop Small campaign.”

In 2020, American Express made a $200 million commitment to jumpstart spending and saw Canadians swipe their cards at over 64,000 small businesses across the country.
