COVID-19 Insurance Relief Update: Unica Insurance

Unica Insurance is providing a one-time premium refund for its auto insurance customers as part of its COVID-19 crisis relief package.

Private passenger car policyholders will automatically receive the refund retroactive to April 1. The rebate is equivalent to a 15% refund over three months’ worth of premium payments. More details on the timing and method of payment to customers are forthcoming.

A subsidiary of La Capitale General Insurance, Unica will also allow deferrals on premium payments on a case-by-case basis, and it is waiving non-sufficient fund fees for all customers until further notice. Unica car insurance customers can temporarily suspend coverage on their vehicles if they are not driving at all. Taking that route, though, means you cannot drive your vehicle for any reason since driving without insurance is illegal.

In times like this, business-as-usual does not apply — we need to focus on good corporate citizenship and to demonstrate the values we have long held as a people-first company.”
